Australia-based drinks producer Billy has launched a range of natural spring waters in aluminium cans in partnership with Orora Beverages.
The eco-conscious company is looking to tackle the environmental impact of single-use plastics, and instead use recyclable aluminium. The company sourced the 500ml cans for its range from Australian canmaker Orora.
“With a mission to protect Australia’s beaches, billabongs, and bays, Billy is set to revolutionise the way we think about packaged water,” said founder Kristian Johannsen. “We’re excited to bring a sustainable and on-brand approach to packaged water in Australia. Billy is here to lead from the front and not follow international competition.”
According to the National Plastics Plan Summary from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Australia’s single-use plastic consumption has reached one million tonnes annually, with around 130,000 tonnes leaking into the country’s marine environment each year.
Billy’s aluminium cans have labels designed to match the freshness of the water inside, which hails from the springs of Mt Buninyong, Victoria, the company said. Still and sparkling options are available.
